A letter of thanks

For more than 30 years, our core values of commitment, teamwork and integrity have allowed us to help our clients succeed.  These same values extend to our community involvement; in fact, Computech donated approximately $500,000 to worthy organizations in 2009 – with numerous staff volunteering their time and energies at local charities and non-profits.

Through our “Computech Cares” efforts, we help support local communities through volunteer endeavors, financial support and partnerships with nonprofit organizations.  One of the wonderful charities we help, the Little Sisters of the Poor, recently wrote to express their thanks for our continuing support — and donation of tickets to the Disney on Ice production at the Verizon Center.  An except from their letter:

“On behalf of the residents, staff, volunteers and Sisters of the Jeanne Jugan Residence of the Little Sisters Of The Poor in Washington, D.C. who attended the Disney On Ice production at the Verizon Center on 2/13/10, we would like to thank J.D. Murphy, and everyone at Computech who made this wonderful outing possible!

Despite the snowy roads and cold temperatures, on February 13th, 17 participants from the Little Sisters Of The Poor and the Josephites Home, ventured out to see the Disney On Ice production. Many had never visited the Verizon Center, much less had such a wonderful, private viewing area, like the Computech Suite! The residents, volunteers, staff, and Sisters were in awe of this magical production of familiar Disney characters…  Again, please accept our immense gratitude for a wonderful day! God bless everyone for sharing these tickets with the residents, volunteers, staff and Sisters.”

About the Little Sisters of the Poor:
Caring for the elderly poor throughout the world, the Little Sisters’ D.C. “chapter” houses more than one hundred residents from twenty different countries. Their homes are open to needy seniors 60 years and older, and they welcome the elderly regardless of race, religion or national origin.  As Little Sisters, they profess vows of chastity, poverty, obedience – and a special 4th vow of hospitality.

the Buzz about Yammer @Computech

While I’m rarely described as subtle, I did take great delight in concocting this morning’s title.  Three social media-type references in five words?  Cue the Guinness guys.

Lest anyone misinterpret this post as an endorsement for Ireland’s favorite beverage, let me cut to the chase: with Google pushing its way into the social media fray by debuting Buzz earlier this week, a few folks have asked for my thoughts (*I’m still getting the hang of it) and how we might incorporate it here at Computech (*I’m looking at TechCrunch’s approach for inspiration).  Have an idea?  Leave a comment below or DM me @aldominick.  That said, let me put a plug in for a tool some of us are already using to communicate and exchange ideas across our spread-out company: Yammer.

Sure, I’ve written about our use of Yammer before; however, with the recent blizzard challenging most of our staff’s ability to work on-site with our clients, this is one tool that I’d like everyone at the firm to sign up for.  While our community is 42 strong at the moment, let’s see if we can triple that number in the next week.  From posts about our pending website redesign to ideas for tech-specific conferences and networking events, we’re trying to leverage Yammer’s collaborative nature to keep everyone “in the know.”  Think of it as our “enterprise” version of Twitter.  (C’mon, you didn’t think I’d cite only two of the three title members in this entry, did you?)

A peek behind the curtains

Need a distraction from the second round of this week’s “snowpocalypse” talk?  Look no further than this marketing and design-inspired post.  While it may be hard to think about the next few weeks (looking at several feet of snow has that effect), we are really excited to re-launch our corporate website later this month.  While we’re still in the design and development phase of things, we’re giving you a sneak peek at what our new look might become:

*Sample home page

*Sample interior page

As you might expect, this is an in-house project.  And yes, we’re very interested in feedback on the look, so please feel free to comment below.

(*If you’re a part of our Yammer community, join the conversation there about how we might build upon our existing site to best promote our firm.)
