the Buzz about Yammer @Computech

While I’m rarely described as subtle, I did take great delight in concocting this morning’s title.  Three social media-type references in five words?  Cue the Guinness guys.

Lest anyone misinterpret this post as an endorsement for Ireland’s favorite beverage, let me cut to the chase: with Google pushing its way into the social media fray by debuting Buzz earlier this week, a few folks have asked for my thoughts (*I’m still getting the hang of it) and how we might incorporate it here at Computech (*I’m looking at TechCrunch’s approach for inspiration).  Have an idea?  Leave a comment below or DM me @aldominick.  That said, let me put a plug in for a tool some of us are already using to communicate and exchange ideas across our spread-out company: Yammer.

Sure, I’ve written about our use of Yammer before; however, with the recent blizzard challenging most of our staff’s ability to work on-site with our clients, this is one tool that I’d like everyone at the firm to sign up for.  While our community is 42 strong at the moment, let’s see if we can triple that number in the next week.  From posts about our pending website redesign to ideas for tech-specific conferences and networking events, we’re trying to leverage Yammer’s collaborative nature to keep everyone “in the know.”  Think of it as our “enterprise” version of Twitter.  (C’mon, you didn’t think I’d cite only two of the three title members in this entry, did you?)

A look in, a look out

With our firm’s executive team and practice leads huddled around a massive table overlooking the infamous Wilson bridge from the Gaylord’s National Harbor hotel, we talked about sharing information “from the top” with all staff.  From new videos on YouTube to daily tweets via Twitter, we’ve taken a number of steps to disseminate information.  Interested in what we’re working on and thinking about?  Our next CQ will have a nice new feel to it; of course, if you’d like to suggest what you’d like to read, add a comment below and we’ll see what we can do.  Likewise, we’re just beginning to add content to a number of social media sites — some of which we list on the right of this blog — and we’re open to thoughts on where else we might be.

On a related note, I mentioned our executive team and practice group leads participating in our off-site meeting.  We’ve been working hard to make changes to our website (www.computechinc.com), adding more content in some places, and cutting back in others.  Take a look at what we’re working on, and spend a few minutes reading about our five key areas of expertise: data-driven dashboards, integrative management solutions (*previously called e-filing and licensing), online auctions, legacy modernization, and revenue-based collection systems.
